Search Engine Optimization

As I study more about Search Engine Optimization or SEO, it is becoming more clear that it all primarily boils down to:

1. finding relevant search keyword phrases
2. writing quality content based on those keywords
3. getting quality backlinks with keyword tags

Of course, depending on your marketing model, there are many other things to do, such as getting hosting, registering a domain, building a website and monetizing it, setting up autoresponders, etc. Still, the most important aspects for getting a good search engine ranking are listed above.

Keywords should be directly related to your site or topic, have a lot of searches per day, but not so many competing websites that it is impossible to get ranked. There are many differing ideas about what the (keyword search)/(competing website results) ratio should ideally be, but the one thing that is most important is to look at the top ten sites for a given keyword search phrase and see if those sites are even optimized for that keyword phrase and also how many backlinks each site has. This will be a better indicator of how well you can compete with those sites.

Writing original articles for your site content is important. It should contain your keywords, but do not overdo it. As Search Engines place more importance on Latent Semantic Indexing, it will benefit you more to just write naturally.

Getting one way backlinks to your website is like getting votes that elevate your site's importance in the Search Engine eyes. If the backlink comes from a high PR website, it will have more weight to it. Also, if your backlink text is also your keyword, it will be more relevant. The more backlinks the better, but build them gradually and naturally. If you buy a thousand backlinks that show up in one day, this will raise a flag with Google and it won't help your search ranking.
